Three Basic Techniques To Cure Your Hemorrhoids Naturally | My ...

Having hemorrhoids herbal treatment is among the easiest and most inexpensive strategies to eliminate your trouble down there.

Sure, there are accessible medical options to cure piles that use expensive equipment. Several even resort to surgical treatment. But wouldn?t you want to avoid all those unneeded expenses if you could? I know I would. Keep reading to learn more about getting the best treatment for you.

Hemorrhoids Herbal Treatment 1: Aloe Vera

If you?re coping with a particularly itchy or swollen case of external hemorrhoids, aloe vera can help relieve the agony. It is, in the end, noted for it?s cooling properties.

Actually, aloe vera is also accustomed to deal with unpleasant skin burns! In your case, the sticky gel-like substance from this plant can be employed directly on the area , making your condition less unpleasant and much more comfy.

Aloe vera, more particularly the aloe vera latex extract, can also be taken internally as a natural laxative. Just make certain you continue your intake to a minimum, as a small dose goes a long way!

Hemorrhoids Herbal Treatment 2: Clover

People have been using fairly sweet clover for a number of health problems, so it?s not really a surprise that it can even take on the problem of piles . Just bundle up some of these flowers with cloth, soak it in hot water and place on the affected area several times a day. It?s a highly efficient and simple way to get the swelling down. Bear in mind, however, that sweet clover is not meant to be used if you are pregnant .

Hemorrhoids Herbal Treatment 3: Witch Hazel

If you truly feel like taking the natural or other way, go on and use wizard hazel . Not many people realize that this plant is commonly located in most hemorrhoid ointments and lotions.

Search for this plant in liquid astringent form and purchase a pack of multi-wipes as well. Pour the substance into the wipes and utilize after going to the toilet. Knowing about the appropriate hemorrhoids herbal therapy can do miracles for your health. Of course, prevention is still better than cure.

Try to practice healthy eating habits in order to avoid bowel problems. It?s also a great idea to inform your doctor of your situation prior to making any huge decisions . Let him know of your options and together, you two can think of the best option for your case.

Magnitude 7.7 quake strikes off western Canada

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) ? A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the west coast of Canada and a tsunami warning was issued, authorities said, but there were no immediate reports of major damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit the Queen Charlotte Islands just after 8 p.m. local time Saturday at a depth of about 3 miles (5 kilometers) and was centered 96 miles (155 kilometers) south of Masset, British Columbia. It was one of the biggest earthquakes around Canada in decades and was felt across a wide area around British Columbia.

The National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas of British Columbia, southern Alaska and Hawaii. The first wave of the small tsunami, about 4 inches (101.6 millimeters), hit the southeast Alaska coastal community of Craig.

Dennis Sinnott of the Canadian Institute of Ocean Science said a 69 centimeter (27 inch) wave was recorded off Langara Island on the northeast tip of Haida Gwaii, formerly called the Queen Charlotte Islands. Another 55 centimeter (21 inch) wave hit Winter Harbour on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island.

"It appears to be settling down," he said. "It does not mean we won't get another small wave coming through."

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center originally said there was no threat to the islands of Hawaii, but a warning was issued later Saturday and remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday. A small craft advisory is in effect until Sunday morning. The center says the first tsunami wave could hit the islands by about 10:30 p.m. local time.

The USGS said the 7.7 magnitude temblor shook the waters around British Columbia and was followed by a 5.8 magnitude aftershock several minutes later. Several other aftershocks were reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska said it was trying to warn everyone with a boat on the water to prepare for a potential tsunami.

Lt. Bernard Auth of the Juneau Command Center said the Coast Guard was working with local authorities to alert people in coastal towns to take precautions.

The quake struck 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Sandspit, British Columbia, on the Haida Gwaii archipelago, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. People in coastal areas were advised to move to higher ground.

Urs Thomas, operator of the Golden Spruce hotel in Port Clements said there was no warning before everything began moving inside and outside the hotel. He said it lasted about three minutes.

"It was a pretty good shock," Thomas, 59, said. "I looked at my boat outside. It was rocking. Everything was moving. My truck was moving."

After the initial jolt, Thomas began to check the hotel.

"The fixtures and everything were still swinging," he said. "I had some picture frames coming down."

Natural Resources Canada said in a statement that a major earthquake was felt across much of north and central British Columbia but that there were no immediate reports of damage. PrayForCanada became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.

"I was sitting at my desk on my computer and everything just started to move. It was maybe 20 seconds," said Joan Girbav, manager of Pacific Inn in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. "It's very scary. I've lived here all my life and I've never felt that."

The quake was felt on the mainland in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, which is across the Hecate Strait from the islands.

"Everyone felt it here," said city recreation director Rudy Kelly, who was setting up an evacuation center for people from the city's low-lying areas. He said the work was in anticipation of a tsunami wave.

Prince Rupert resident Grainne Barthe said fire trucks had blocked access to the waterfront when she came out of a restaurant.

"Everything was moving. It was crazy," she said. "I've felt earthquakes before but this was the biggest. It was nerve wracking. I thought we should be going under a table."

Residents rushed out of their homes in Tofino, British Columbia on Vancouver Island when the tsunami sirens sounded, but they were allowed to return about two hours after the quake.

Yvett Drews, a resident of Tofino, said she and dozens of others had gathered at the local elementary school where they were told by police that they could return home.

But while on the way home, Drews said she heard the tsunami sirens go off again.

"Well that just freaked me out, hearing the siren and the voice," she said.

Carsten Ginsburg, a resident on British Columbia's mainland in Bella Coola, said the quake lasted for about 40 seconds.

"It shook everything. The electricity went out, the power lines were swinging all over the place and stuff was falling off the shelves."

Ginsburg owns the Float House Inn on the public wharf in Bella Coola and had about six customers celebrating a birthday party.

Canada's largest earthquake since 1700 was an 8.1 magnitude quake on August 22, 1949 off the coast of British Columbia, according to the Canadian government's Natural Resources website. It occurred on the Queen Charlotte Fault in what the department called Canada's equivalent of the San Andreas Fault ? the boundary between the Pacific and North American plates that runs underwater along the west coast of the Haida Gwaii.

Saturday's quake is the strongest in Canada since 1958 when a 7.9 magnitude quake struck along the B.C.-Alaska border about 500 kilometers (300 miles) northeast of Saturday's quake, according to the website.

Recipe for success earns global recognition; Watsonville nonprofit's ...

WATSONVILLE -- A commercial kitchen project aimed at nourishing budding entrepreneurs has won international recognition.

Nonprofit El Pajaro Community Development Corp.'s culinary business incubator is one of 11 finalists -- and the only one from the United States -- in the Ashoka Changemakers' Power of the Small: Entrepreneurs Strengthening Local Economies competition.

The public will choose four winners to receive a $10,000 prize through online voting at www.changemakers.com/powerofsmall.

"I knew we had a project for competing, but still it was shock to get the notice," said Carmen Herrera-Mansir, El Pajaro's executive director. "We at the CDC are very proud."

The news comes as construction of the kitchen in a former tofu factory on Riverside Drive is set to start. The $400,000 project, expected to be complete by late February, will include construction of 10 work stations and installation of commercial equipment.

The Cooking up Success project will benefit low-income entrepreneurs who lack the resources to launch or expand a business.

Herrera-Mansir said bakers, candy makers, caterers, and farmers who want to process surplus produce for sale are among the 60 people on the waiting list to participate in the shared-use kitchen.

"They are realistic but they have big dreams," said Herrera-Mansir, mentioning one part-time baker who is earning supplemental income

and wants to expand his business. "He told me, 'One day I'm going to see my business name on a truck.' This is the kind of dream and project we want to foster."

Ashoka Changemakers, the competition sponsor, is building an online open source community to profile solutions to the pressing international problems.

The potential $10,000 prize is only the start of the benefits El Pajaro anticipates gaining from being named a finalist.

"It's the exposure," Herrera-Mansir said.

The culinary business incubator was one of 370 projects submitted to the contest, and judged by experts in the economic development field. Winners will be named at an international conference Nov. 12-15 in Madrid. Ashoka is paying for the finalists to attend, and Herrera-Mansir will represent El Pajaro.

She's looking forward to making connections at the conference that could lead to more funding as well as mentoring. She's already heard from two of the judges offering guidance.

"Just the fact of the selection and the reason for our selection makes us proud," Herrera-Mansir said. "It confirms we're on the right track."

Unprecedented 'black mold' meningitis a challenge

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The black mold creeping into the spines of hundreds of people who got tainted shots for back pain marks uncharted medical territory.

Never before has this particular fungus been found to cause meningitis. It's incredibly hard to diagnose, and to kill ? requiring at least three months of a treatment that can cause hallucinations. There's no good way to predict survival, or when it's safe to stop treating, or exactly how to monitor those who fear the fungus may be festering silently in their bodies.

"I don't think there is a precedent for this kind of thing," said Dr. Arjun Srinivasan of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health officials and doctors have tracked down most of the 14,000 people potentially at risk for fungal meningitis, blamed for the deaths of 24 people and sickening more than 300.

"This is definitely new territory for us," he said.

The fungus' brown-black color signals an armor that ? along with being injected near the spine ?helped this mold sneak past the immune defenses of otherwise healthy people, said Dr. Arturo Casadevall, a fungal disease specialist at New York's Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

"What we're dealing with here is fundamentally different" from a typical fungal infection, he said. "This is a bug that most of us don't know much about."

But they're learning fast, piecing together clues that promise some hope.

Doctors are beginning to detail in medical journals the first deaths in this outbreak, and the grim autopsy findings make clear that treating early is crucial, before the fungus becomes entrenched. In one case, a woman died in Maryland after the fungus pierced blood vessels in her brain, leading to severe damage.

People getting treated earlier "seem to be doing OK," with fewer of the strokes that characterized the outbreak's beginning, said Dr. Carol Kauffman of the University of Michigan. She has advised the CDC and co-authored advice in the New England Journal of Medicine on how to handle the complex medication used in treatment.

People who got contaminated steroid shots made by a Massachusetts pharmacy have been told to be on guard for months for meningitis symptoms. But the CDC said Wednesday that the biggest risk for getting sick seems to be within 42 days of receiving one of the implicated back injections.

With the tainted shots recalled in late September, that means the period of greatest risk is nearing an end. And it should help doctors bombarded with calls from the worried determine who most needs a spinal tap to look for the very earliest signs of infection.

The CDC said doctors have two valid options: To watch patients closely for symptoms or to consider a just-in-case spinal tap, possibly repeated weekly, for at-risk people still inside that 42-day window. However, CDC officials note that spinal taps come with their own risks.

"We know the farther out you are from receiving an injection, the lower your risk becomes for developing meningitis or other infections. We want to emphasize that," CDC's Dr. Tom Chiller told a conference call for physicians on Thursday.

Still, public health officials recall a 2002 meningitis cluster linked to steroid injections contaminated with a different fungus; one of those victims got sick 152 days after the shot.

Fungal infections don't get a lot of attention, but they afflict millions around the world, said David Perlin of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, who is studying better ways to diagnose them. Most are skin infections like athlete's foot, but fungi also can cause pneumonia, sinusitis and other problems.

Serious infections tend to strike people with immune systems weakened because of cancer, AIDS or other problems. Fungus-caused meningitis in particular is extremely rare? especially in otherwise healthy people like in this outbreak ? and it's "very bad news," said Michigan's Kauffman.

While the more common bacterial and viral forms of meningitis tend to strike quickly with obvious symptoms, fungal meningitis grows very slowly and is hard to diagnose. Few antifungal drugs are absorbed into the central nervous system, limiting treatment options. Plus, human cells and fungal cells have a lot of similarities, making it hard to attack the fungus without side effects, Kauffman explained.

The main culprit in this outbreak is a black mold called Exserohilum rostratum, common in dirt and grasses. Only 33 human infections previously had been reported, mostly eye or skin infections in people with weak immune systems, Casadevall said.

Here's how scientists think it's sneaking into the well-guarded spinal cord and brain of a healthy person:

?The steroid injected near the spine reduces inflammation, one of the immune system's defenses against contamination.

?The mold grows quietly until enough accumulates for it to burrow a tiny hole, or abscess, into the lining of the spinal canal, said Dr. William Schaffner of Vanderbilt University. Reaching the spinal fluid inside offers a direct pathway to the brain.

?The fungus' color signals how intractable it is. Brown-black molds produce melanin, the same chemical that helps human skin tan. It guards against the sun's mold-killing ultraviolet rays ? and inside people, it fends off both antifungal drugs and other immune-system attacks, Casadevall said.

The good news: Black mold is treatable with a drug named voriconazole, with far fewer side effects than the older treatment initially recommended when the outbreak began.

Still, Kauffman cautioned doctors to carefully monitor patients because differences in metabolism can make levels surge in the bloodstream, causing hallucinations, confusion, nausea and occasionally liver damage. On the flip side, their bodies may process the drug too quickly to battle the fungus. Plus, voriconazole can interact badly with a list of other common medications.

"It's not clear" how long to treat but at least three months is advised, Kauffman said. It begins with intravenous infusions that are hard to administer outside of a hospital. Then once the patient is stable enough, pills can be used.

Mo Bro Chefs Menu #1: Spiced Crab, Beef Bourgignon & Coffee ...

A three course 'Movember' dinner party menu.

Nowadays, November is more synonymous with facial hair than the infamous Gunpowder Plot conspirator (although he had a cracking 'tache too). Since 2003, men have been growing their 'Mo's' in a month long charity event to raise money and awareness for men's health. This year, several top chefs are supporting the cause by growing moustaches and contributing some tasty looking recipes to the Movember cookbook Bring It On Home, sharing knowledge, tips and their favourite recipes. In the run up to Movember, we are publishing a series of three course dinner party menus from the book, for you to recreate at home, starting with Menu #1 below. Let the hairy games begin!

Starter: Spiced crab and avocado on toast

by David Johnson
Head chef, Then Admiral Codrington, London?

INGREDIENTS (serving 6)

400g white crab meat
? bunch of coriander
2 red chillies
1 lemon
100ml extra virgin olive oil
3 ripe green avocados
2 cloves of garlic
2 bunches of watercress
1 loaf sourdough bread

METHOD
? De-seed the red chillies and chop finely along with the coriander. In a bowl, flake the crab meat and add the chopped coriander and chilli. Zest the lemon and squeeze the juice of half a lemon and add to the meat with 25ml of the oil. Season to taste and place in the fridge until needed.
? Peel and remove the stones from the avocados, place in a food processor with the juice of half a lemon, garlic and the remainder of the oil and blend until smooth.
? Slice the sourdough into thick slices and grill both sides on a griddle pan until well toasted. Spread the avocado pur?e on and then spoon the crab meat on top. Drizzle with a little oil and top with watercress and serve with wedges of lemon.

Main Course:?Beef Bourgignon, potato & parsnip mash

by Luca and Guglielmo D'Alfonso
The Fumbally, Dublin

INGREDIENTS?(serving 6)

Bourgignon:
1kg shin of beef, diced
1 stick of cinnamon
1 bay leaf
2 onions
1 leek
4 shallots
3 cloves of garlic
4 carrots, peeled
4 celery sticks
2 400g tins of peeled plum tomatoes
100g fresh, good quality mixed mushrooms
1 bunch parsley
50g smoked bacon lardons
Sprigs of thyme or rosemary
100g plain flour
1 bottle Chianti or Barolo
Extra virgin olive oil

Creamy parsnip and potato mash with red onions:
5 large rooster potatoes
4 parsnips
2 red onions
The remainder of the red wine from the Bourguignon recipe
20ml balsamic vinegar
1 tsp sugar
50g butter
50g of single cream
A little grated nutmeg
Olive oil, for frying.

METHOD

For the Bourgignon:
? Finely chop the onion, shallots and leek. Roughly chop the carrots and celery. In a stewing pot, heat 50ml of extra virgin olive oil. Add two cloves of the peeled garlic and the smoked bacon lardons. Cook for 3 minutes on a medium heat then add all the chopped vegetables and cook on a low heat for a further 15 minutes.
? Meanwhile, thinly slice the mushrooms, remaining garlic and the parsley stalks. Put a little olive oil in a frying pan and sweat the garlic and parsley together, taking care not to burn the garlic. Add the mushrooms after a few minutes and cook them on a low heat until softened.
? Lightly coat the diced shin of beef with the plain flour and add it into the stewing pot along with the thyme, shaking off the excess flour before adding it in. When the meat is seared completely, add the cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and mushroom mix from the frying pan, two tins of plum tomatoes and 400ml of the wine. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the pot to the boil and then cover and put in a preheated oven at 180?C for at least 2.5 hours. You will know it is ready when the meat is so tender that it can be broken up easily with a fork. Remove from oven when cooked, check the seasoning and adjust if necessary.

For the parsnip and potato mash:
? Peel the potatoes and parsnip. Chop roughly and bring to the boil together in salty water.
? While the potato and parsnip are boiling, chop the red onions and fry them with a dash of olive oil. When softened, add the remainder of the wine, the balsamic and the sugar. Simmer it until it has reduced and tastes sweet.
? When the potato and parsnip are cooked, drain them in a colander allowing them to steam for a few minutes torelease their moisture. Put them back into the pot with the caramelised onions, butter, cream, salt and pepperthen grate in a little nutmeg. Blend everything together with a hand blender. Season to taste.

Pudding: Coffee bean panna cotta, espresso syrup

by Anthony Power
Moustache Chef, London

This dessert is very easy to make and can be made the day before your dinner party. It also serves as a great substitute for serving guests coffee after the meal, which, unless you have an espresso machine, can be a hassle ? and no one likes bad coffee.

INGREDIENTS?(serving 6)

Panna cotta:
150ml double cream
150ml milk
25g fresh coffee beans
50g sugar
2 leaves of gelatin (you can get this from most supermarkets)
Biscotti or shortbread biscuits to serve

Syrup:
20ml glucose (you can get this from most supermarkets)
50g sugar
150ml very strong coffee, preferably espresso

METHOD
For the panna cotta:
? In a bowl, soak the gelatin with a little cold water.
? In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, sugar and the coffee beans on a low heat, slowly bring to the boil and allow to infuse for 30 minutes. Squeeze the water from the gelatin and add the softened leaves to the cream mixture, stirring thoroughly. Strain through a sieve and pour into small moulds or pots. Set in the fridge for at least 3 hours.

For the coffee syrup:
Place all ingredients in a saucepan and reduce over a low heat until thick and syrupy.
Hint ? take the coffee syrup out of the fridge a few hours before your dessert course so it warms to room temperature and softens to a thick syrup.

Apple set to announce iPad Mini, will live - Canada.com

?

Apple announced the latest addition to its iPad line of tablet computers, beginning at 1 p.m. EST. But in a shocking move, the company is now live-streaming the announcement over the Internet.

This is the first time Apple has offered live video of a press event since 2010, and the practice has been rare in the company?s history, as former CEO Steve Jobs preferred the anticipation and sense of exclusivity that comes with an invitation-only press event. The live video stream was available directly on Apple TV, the company?s set-top box designed to stream video content from the Internet and iTunes, and through the company?s website.

Today?s event comes only a few weeks after Apple held a similar event to launch the iPhone 5, a product that has sold extremely well in the mean time.

Apple is widely expected to launch a smaller version of the popular iPad tablet computer today. The device is expected to sport a 7-inch display with a lower price point designed to better compete with Samsung, Microsoft and an array of other low-cost tablets that have flooded the market place. As with previous product releases, leaks from the company?s supply chain have removed much of the surprise from today?s announcement, as photos and technical specs have already flooded the Internet. It will be an accomplishment, indeed, if Tim Cook has a surprise for the Apple faithful when he takes the stage later today.

Update: Colour us shocked. Here?s the full recap of what happened at the press event. WAY more than we were expecting.

Join us live right here at 1 p.m. EST as we provide live updates from the press event, complete with our brand of Canadian humour for the Android-lovers in the crowd.

Ore. barista was raped, shot by neighbor, police say

By Andrew Mach, NBC News

Whitney Heichel, the 21-year-old Oregon barista whose body was found days after she vanished on her way to work, was sexually assaulted and shot to death by her neighbor, police said.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office

Jonathan Daniel Holt, who turns 25 Wednesday, was arrested Friday, Oct. 19 and charged Monday with the murder of Whitney Heichel.

Police charged Heichel?s neighbor, Jonathan Holt, 24, with seven counts, including aggravated murder with a firearm, kidnapping, robbery, and sodomy, during an arraignment in Clackamas County Circuit Court Monday.

He appeared via satellite from Clackamas County Jail wearing an anti-suicide smock and looked on the verge of tears, The Oregonian reported. Holt did not enter a plea during the brief appearance.

Holt, who lived in the same Gresham, Ore., apartment building as Heichel and her husband, admitted to investigators that he waited outside Heichel?s apartment and asked her for a ride when she left for work at about 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, according to a probable cause affidavit released Monday by?the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

According to the document, Holt told Oregon State Police Sgt. Jon Harrington Friday that Heichel agreed to give Holt a ride. About five minutes after they got into the car, Holt pulled out a handgun and forced her to drive to an area near Roslyn Lake, he told Harrington. There, he forced Heichel to engage in sexual activity and then shot the 21-year-old woman to death, according to the affidavit.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner?s Office announced Monday the death of 21-year-old Whitney Heichel was caused by four gunshot wounds. Dr. Christopher Young with the medical examiner?s office said the autopsy, which was completed on Saturday morning, showed Heichel?s death to be homicide, The Oregonian reported.

Holt told investigators that he then threw his cell phone into Roslyn Lake and drove to Larch Mountain, where he attempted to hide Heichel?s body.

Gresham Police Department

Whitney Heichel, 21, was last seen by her husband on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Her body was discovered Friday.

Holt?s cell phone was found at the lake and a DNA sample found on the steering wheel of Heichel?s Ford Explorer was ?consistent with? Holt?s DNA profile, the affidavit said.

Searchers discovered Heichel?s body late Friday night on a remote, forested area east of Gresham, Ore.

According to a statement released early Monday by the Heichel?s family spokesperson Jim Vaughn, Holt was a member of their Jehovah?s Witnesses congregation, and the family had no indication that he was ?capable of being involved in what is alleged to have happened.?

Holt is expected to get a court-appointed attorney within three days, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26. He will continue to be held without bail in the county jail.

In the statement, Heichel's family and her husband, Clint Heichel, said they were devastated by the "bewildering"?loss of of Whitney but comforted by the support from the community. ?

?The loving concern from ones that didn?t even know Whitney or her family has deeply touched our hearts. The kind expressions and support from perfect strangers has confirmed to us that there is much good in people, and this moves them to display ?loving acts of kindness.?

Cafe Lynnylu-Food and Drink for Your Dining Pleasure: Seafood ...

A favorite during the crab and shrimp season here in coastal Georgia, this seafood sausage gumbo is sure to be a dish that will be repeated over and over in my repertoire of hearty comfort food. However, you don't have to go crabbing or shrimping, prepared seafood is readily available in the seafood section of your grocery store or at your local fishmonger.?

What's interesting about this gumbo is the okra is saut?ed before it is added to the other ingredients. By doing this, the okra is not quite as viscous. I reserved some for a garnish. Making a good roux is an integral part of making a successful gumbo. Not difficult to make, but needs constant stirring to ensure even browning. Do not leave the pot unattended as it could burn very quickly!

Affair-proofing (Follow these 3 Tips) ? MarriageSherpa

Wouldn?t it be great if you could wave a wand and never, ever have to experience the pain of an affair? ?Never feel the agony of betrayal by your lover???

Affair victims can attest: the pain of an affair ranks up there with some of the worst experiences in life. When affair victims first discover the treachery of their partner, it feels as if a mortal blow has been struck. Peace of mind is destroyed, with negative thought loops playing over and over along with a sea of negative emotions.??

These victims wish they could go back in time and figure out a way to prevent the affair from ever happening.??

I am going to give you 3 tips today for affair-proofing your relationship. There is no guarantee, but this is the closest you can get to one. Please keep reading?

Affairs: Who?s at Fault??

First, I want to make one thing very clear: there is nothing an affair victim did to make their partner cheat. No matter how bad your relationship was prior to the affair, the decision to cheat ultimately lies with the cheater. You didn?t hold a gun to their head, and neither did the paramour. The full responsibility for the decision to cheat rests with the cheater.??

The reason I am adamant about this is because too many victims spend precious energy on what they did wrong that caused the affair. There are two separate issues here: there are the problems a couple has in their relationship, and then there is the cheater?s decision to commit infidelity.??

So, while you play a part in your relationship and therefore are party to some of the issues, these do not excuse the cheater or give them permission to go cheat. Since when does cheating fix problems in a relationship? Instead, it brings everything to a vicious head, causes untold suffering, and sometimes completely rips apart any bond they may have had with their partner.??

The price is too much to pay.??

So when I say tell you there are ways to affair-proof your relationship, I mean there are certain things that couples in successful relationships do that help fix issues in the relationship, whereas cheaters may use the issues as an excuse for cheating.??

Successful Couples Use these 3 Strategies

Not every couple allows their issues to tear apart their relationship. If you look at the divorce rate, it?s not 100%, which means that a high percentage of couples are doing something to stay together.??

Now, a cynic may say that there are just a bunch of miserable people out there, staying together. But you have surely seen happy couples and probably wondered, what is their secret? Are they just more compatible than you and your partner???

Couples who are successful at managing their relationship struggles employ three specific strategies. These strategies help affair-proof their relationship because they can stop issues before they start, and they also pull them closer together as a couple.??

Here are the three most critical affair-proofing strategies that help a relationship thrive:?

Affair-proofing Strategy 1: Open-door Policy toward Partner?

Keeping the lines of communication open is critical for a close, intimate relationship.??

One thing that Marriage Sherpa has discovered leads to a lot of cheaters making a path toward that fatal relationship decision is their lack of transparency. When you are not open about your comings and goings or who you talk to on the phone, you?re leaving the door closed, which means secrecy. And it?s secrecy that creates fertile ground for an affair to happen.??

When a couple is open with each other and shares even those trivial things such as who they associate with and where they go, it?s a lot more challenging to do sneaky behaviors that can leave the door closed for your relationship?but the door open for cheating.??

Affair-proofing Strategy 2: Rolling out the Good Times?

If you have one fight a month but go out for fun four times, what do you think carries more weight??

Successful couples aren?t na?ve enough to believe they?ll never disagree or have an argument. However, they don?t focus 100% of their attention on the negative. They make time for laughs, and it?s this positive energy that keeps them bonded.???

When couples have fun together, they?re not likely to take an interest in searching for fun elsewhere.??

Affair-proofing Strategy 3: Take the ?Team vs. I? Approach?

Successful couples recognize that they are a team, and they pool their emotional resources together for the betterment of their team. It?s when a couple draws off into separate corners and it becomes mostly about ?me? and ?I,? that a rift can develop.??

Taking the team approach means you resolve things together, which strengthens your bond. Taking the ?I? approach can make you feel you?re on your own, and then you may start looking for someone else with whom to become a ?team.?

My best to you in affair-proofing your relationship.

Have you or your partner had an affair?

If so, had you been practicing the affair-proofing strategies in this blog?

Presidential race buffets fight for Senate control

(AP) ? The party that runs the Senate next year may be decided by how well President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney do in toss-up states like Nevada, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin, where ballots feature parallel Senate races about as tight as the presidential contest.

The mammoth campaign organizations built by Obama and Romney, his Republican challenger, are focusing their voter registration and turnout efforts in those four states and a handful of other presidential battlegrounds. Congressional candidates there are latching onto the help that can come from the larger, better-funded presidential campaigns.

In Nevada, Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley is hoping to buttress her challenge to Republican Sen. Dean Heller with the Obama campaign's efforts to register Hispanic voters. In Virginia, the GOP has operated 29 offices across the state combining the operations of Romney, Senate candidate George Allen and House candidates.

Democrats control the Senate 53-47, including two independents who vote with them. Of the 33 seats up for grabs on Election Day, a dozen are considered competitive, largely in the West and Midwest. Republicans need a net pickup of four seats to take control if Obama is re-elected, three if Romney wins.

Both sides are measuring the impact of the presidential race at a time when spending on congressional races ? especially by outside groups ? is mushrooming.

In the House, Democrats have been hoping that a strong Election Day performance by Obama could lift their candidates, especially in states he is expected to win easily like New York, Illinois and California. They may make some gains but seem unlikely to pick up 25 seats they need to wrest House control from the GOP. Only about 60 seats are considered competitive in the 435-member House.

"There's no question we pick up seats in direct correlation to the president's coattails," said Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., who heads the House Democratic campaign organization.

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., deputy chairman of the House GOP's political operation, concedes that a strong Obama showing would likeliest strengthen the Democratic vote in urban areas, where Republicans have few seats anyway. Republicans hope to limit Democratic pickups by winning seats of their own in North Carolina, Arkansas, Indiana and even Massachusetts.

"It helps us if Romney is doing better," especially in rural and suburban areas where many GOP lawmakers come from, Walden said. "And Governor Romney is doing much better" than he was earlier in the campaign, said Walden.

In Ohio, Republican challenger Josh Mandel is hoping for a late surge by Romney that might also lift him past Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown. Polls show Brown, who has a liberal pro-labor voting record, consistently leading Mandel and doing better in the state than Obama, whose advantage in the pivotal state has narrowed.

On Friday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce reported spending $2.3 million for TV and radio ads to help Mandel, making Brown one of the business lobby's top targets.

"If Romney could keep it close, Mandel's going to be in the Senate," said Scott Reed, a top political strategist for the chamber.

In a debate last week, Mandel hammered his rival for supporting Obama's health care overhaul and for driving up the national debt with efforts such as the federal auto rescue. Brown made no apologies, ticking off benefits he said each law brought to average Ohioans.

"I'm proud of that because now more than a million Ohio seniors now get free checkups," he said of his support for the health care law.

In wide-open Virginia, the presidential race's impact on the Senate contest may be tempered by the near universal name recognition of the two Senate rivals. Republican George Allen and Democrat Tim Kaine are former recent governors, and the $20 million the two have combined to spend so far makes their contest one of the nation's most expensive, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

"Headwinds will largely come from the presidential, but because name identification is so high for both Governor Allen and Governor Kaine, these races will be nearly mirroring each other," said Pete Snyder, chairman of the GOP's coordinated presidential and congressional campaigns in the state.

Ticket-splitting is as much as factor in some Senate races as coattails. Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin is heading toward re-election in West Virginia and there are tight Senate races in Arizona, Indiana and North Dakota, though Romney seems certain to win all four states.

Obama is sure to win Connecticut, yet professional wrestling magnate Linda McMahon, a Republican, is running a well-financed and strong race against Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy for the seat being vacated by independent Sen. Joe Lieberman.

The presidential contest is also providing plenty of fodder for congressional campaigns ? and not just in the frequent attacks that Republicans make on Obama and Democrats launch against Romney.

In a play for moderate Virginia voters, Kaine uses one TV spot to position himself between Allen and Obama. The ad states Obama's preference to block a renewal of decade-old tax cuts on income exceeding $250,000, and Allen's insistence ? shared by most Republicans ? on extending the reductions for all.

"There's a middle ground. Let the tax cuts expire for those earning over $500,000," Kaine tells the camera, calling it "the fiscally responsible thing to do."

In an Indiana ad, Senate Democratic hopeful Rep. Joe Donnelly attacks his GOP rival, tea party favorite Richard Mourdock, using presidential debate footage of Romney saying he got little done as Massachusetts governor "by saying it's my way or the highway." Mourdock "is all about my way or the highway," the ad says.

And in a Wisconsin Senate debate last week, GOP candidate Tommy Thompson distanced himself from the House-passed budget written by Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate. His rival, Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin, repeatedly linked him to the blueprint that she argued would raise taxes on the middle class.

"You're absolutely wrong," Thompson told Baldwin. "I have a plan completely different from Paul Ryan."

Meanwhile, spending has continued to accelerate on congressional races by both political parties and outside groups, including Crossroads GPS backed by former White House GOP strategist Karl Rove and unions such as the SEIU.

According to the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation, which monitors campaign spending, outside groups have spent $161 million since June 1 on House races and $156 million on Senate races, with Republicans benefiting from a modest advantage.

But that spending has accelerated in recent days, especially on the GOP side, the foundation found.

In the week ending last Friday, groups have spent $13 million to help House Democratic candidates and $22 million for House Republicans. Senate Democratic hopefuls have benefited from $6 million, Senate Republicans from $10 million.

In one instance, an obscure conservative group, the Government Integrity Fund Action Network, spent $1.1 million for an ad attacking Democrat Elizabeth Esty, who is seeking an open House seat in Connecticut. That is a huge expenditure for a House race.

The Senate Democratic campaign committee spent $1.6 million to advertise against Allen in Virginia.

Expert Ideas In Internet Marketing You Can Use Now! | Eric Chua ...

You can enjoy nearly unlimited success when you apply effective Online marketing principles. More than ever before, you can find new business and build strong relationships with them. You can learn ways to make use of this marketing technique by reading this article.

When you see a domain name that you want, be prepared and have money available to purchase it. You may not be able to get the exact domain name you were hoping for. By spending upwards of $2,000, chances are good that you can obtain one that is extremely similar.

Use Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites to your advantage. News media, such as social websites, allow you to keep up-to-date and in constant communication with all your site?s visitors, and simple and quick when trying to keep them informed about any promotions. However, beware of being overly promotional in your comments and tweets. Rather, provide posts that are informative and witty, with a little bit of sales lingo scattered here and there.

TIP! Current content is very important on your website. If a site visitor sees outdated content, they might think you are doing badly and will not stay long on your site.

Talk with other businesses and retailers online to create bundle deals of services and products that you could sell for less in volume. This method allows you to link several markets, which will generate more sales for you. This strategy is proven effective by the ways that online booking agents bundle vacation packages. This idea is perfect for any company that has linked products that complement each other, but are not seen as competitors.

Offering incentives and discounts can encourage your customers to order from you again. This could include things like free gift wrapping, free shipping or quicker delivery. You may want to offer free shipping to the first hundred people purchasing a new product. This induces people to make a purchase quickly because of a perceived discount.

TIP! Try to understand your competitors. You may easily look at the competition?s web site to see the features they might have.

You can use online tools to determine the efficiency of your marketing approach; one option is to calculate the percentage of site visitors who ultimately end up making a purchase. Most major companies online offer various add-ons and trackers, which allow you to see the comparison of visitors to sales numbers and repeat customers.

You should ensure that your business website?s URL is a simple one. If possible, use the name of your business or brand as your website name. Although Google is simple to use, it is another step that a customer has to take if they cannot remember your web address. So make it something simple that will automatically stick in their minds.

To increase the quality of your website marketing, start blogging. If you blog regularly, you are giving yourself another forum through which you can inform consumers. Blogging adds more content to your website, which can give you a larger presence on the internet. This frequently translates into more traffic to your site.

TIP! Have a comment form available to consumers who choose not to purchase. They may offer helpful information you can use to increase sales.

Become an expert in whatever is on your site. This is vital because you will have a good reputation for being an expert, if you are not truthful people will not come back!

If you want to be successful at Website marketing, you must have a very clear understanding of your competition. If you know your competitors, you can discover and make use of weaknesses and strengths that can make you a lot of money. This is essential for any marketing campaign.

You need to remember that you will need to use some of your profits from Web marketing to do more marketing. If you can make a cycle that includes customers and a search they often use, they can locate your business and purchase your products.

TIP! A CMR (customer relationship management) list is a great Internet marketing tool. Use it to identify past and present customers and their respective purchase history.

Pay attention to the small details on your site. The title of your site should be at the top right corner of every page along with a brief description of the site. Visitors will land on different pages depending on the searches that they perform, and if they can?t figure out what you?re site is about, they are likely to leave immediately.

One element of your Website marketing plan should be to create a page for your website dedicated to public relations matters. You can include content with articles that could be used for magazines, newspapers and online. This will help you show off any positive reviews you have received, which will increase your credibility.

Offer a money back guarantee to your customers when you market your business online. Customers need to know you will make an effort to to accept responsibility for your products or services that don?t work out for them. Money back offers are an old, but effective, way to build trust, brand loyalty and increase sales.

TIP! If a customer buys something, try showing them some similar items that they may also be interested in. As an example, if a customer bought your ebook on how to knit, send them a link to the more advanced products you offer on knitting.

Let your users post reviews. This kind of feedback from users is an effective way to show visitors the benefits and uses for your product. Be sure to monitor the page so the best reviews and comments are highlighted.

You?ve already seen the great number of people that Website marketing has been able to reach. You can also use it keep in touch with existing customers. This customer and business interaction has never before been possible, but is now with the power of the Internet. Use the helpful methods in the article above to get the most out of what the Internet has to offer your business.

SOCIAL SECURITY: Medicare Open Enrollment: Now's the time ...

If you currently are enrolled in Medicare and are considering changes to your Medicare health and/or drug plan, act now. The ?open season? runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.

In our work with Medicare, one of the questions people ask most often is which plan is the best one. That?s not something we at Social Security can answer, because picking a plan is an important and personal decision. Each person has a unique set of priorities. How do you weigh your options? Now?s the time to think about what matters to you, and pick the Medicare plan that meets your needs.

When you sit down to review your Medicare health and drug plan choices this year, keep track of the things you may want in a plan, and pick one that?s right for you. Here are some things to keep in mind while you consider your choices:

? Costs. You should look at your current health care costs to find coverage that works with your financial situation. How much are your premiums and deductibles? How much do you pay for hospital stays and doctor visits? Just like everything else, the lowest-premium health plan option might not be the best choice for you.

? Coverage. Are the services you need covered? We know future health care needs can be hard to predict, and changes happen. Maybe your doctor changed your prescriptions this year or you have different health concerns. Make sure you understand what services and benefits you?re likely to use in the coming year and find coverage that meets your needs.

? Convenience. Your time is valuable. When comparing plans, make sure you check which doctors and hospitals you?ll be able to use. Where are they located and what are their hours? Check which pharmacies you can use. Can you get prescriptions by mail? Remember that even if you?re happy with your current plan, these answers might change from year to year.

? Quality of care. Ask yourself whether you?re truly satisfied with your medical care. Not all health care is created equal, and the doctors, hospitals and facilities you choose can impact your health. Look for plans with a 5-star performance rating ? the right expertise and care may help speed your recovery and improve your outcomes.

It?s worth your time to take a look and compare coverage between now and Dec. 7. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan/questions/home.aspx to look at all of the health and drug plan options in your area. If you still need help comparing, call 1?800?MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or go to www.medicare.gov for more information.? ?

Only you know what?s most important to you and your family ? that?s why we want to make sure you have all the information you need to make the best decision. Before you consider your Medicare plan options, think about your personal priorities so you can be sure your plan meets your unique needs.

Marijuana use may cause severe cyclic nausea, vomiting, a little-known, but costly effect

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? Marijuana use -- both natural and synthetic -- may cause cannabinoid hyperemesis (CH) a little-known but costly effect that researchers suggest is a serious burden to the health care system as it often leads to expensive diagnostic tests and ineffective treatments in an effort to find the cause of a patient's symptoms and provide relief, according to two separate case reports unveiled October 22 at the American College of Gastroenterology's (ACG) 77th Annual Scientific meeting in Las Vegas. Cannabinoid hyperemesis is characterized by a history of chronic cannabis use followed by a cyclic pattern of nausea, vomiting and colicky abdominal pain. Interestingly, compulsive hot baths or showers temporarily relieve symptoms, another characteristic which aids clinicians in diagnosis.

"Most healthcare providers are unaware of the link between marijuana use and these episodes of cyclic nausea and vomiting so they are not asking about natural or synthetic cannabinoid use when a patient comes to the emergency room or their doctor's office with these symptoms," said co-investigator Ana Maria Crissien-Martinez, M.D. of Scripps Green Hospital and Clinic in San Diego. She said CH was first described in a 2004 case series of 9 patients in Australia and since then, 14 case reports and 4 case series have been published, including a prospective series of 98 patients published by Mayo Clinic in February 2012.

"Patients who use cannabis whether natural or in synthetic form called 'Spice' also don't realize their unexplained episodes of cyclic nausea and vomiting may be a result of this use, with some increasing their cannabis use because they may think it will help alleviate their symptoms -- and it actually makes them worse," said Dr. Crissien-Martinez. "The only resolution is cannabis cessation."

Dr. Crissien-Martinez co-authored the case report, "Marijuana: Anti-Emetic or Pro-Emetic" which described a series of 9 patients with cannabinoid hyperemesis at Scripps Green Hospital with average age at diagnosis 30 years-old; 88 percent male; onset of cannabis use during teen years; 88 percent used cannabis daily; 56 percent compulsive bathing behavior; and 80 percent symptom resolution with cannabis cessation.

The other case report, "Spicing Up the Differential for Cyclic Vomiting: A Case of Synthetic-Cannabinoid Induced Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS)," may be the first reported case of CH attributed to synthetic cannabinoid, according to Fong-Kuei Cheng, M.D. and his research team from Walter Reed Walter Reed National Military Medical Center/Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.

"Legal synthetic cannabinoids became available in the United States by 2009 with widespread usage among military personnel due to its ability to elude standard drug testing. It is important to recognize that routine urine drug testing does not include JWH-018 and JWH 073, which are the primary components in synthetic cannabinoids," said Dr. Cheng.

The case report described a 22-year active duty military male who was admitted with a 10-month history of progressive, intermittent abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, with episodes occurring every two months and lasting up to a week. He underwent several diagnostic tests before a urine synthetic cannabinoid test confirmed the diagnosis of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). Since discontinuing these drugs, the patient has remained symptom-free, according to the case report.

"This case illustrates that CHS should be in the differential diagnosis of unexplained, episodic abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, particularly if relieved with compulsive hot showers. Recognition of this syndrome is important to prevent unnecessary testing and to reduce health care expenditures," said Dr. Cheng. "We have also noted, particularly in the active duty population where drug testing for cannabis usage is done routinely, that there appears to be an increased usage instead of the synthetic cannabinoids, so we would advocate routine additional testing for them when the clinical suspicion is high."

Patients frequently have multiple hospital, clinic and emergency room visits with extensive negative work-up to include imaging studies, endoscopies, and laboratory testing before they are finally diagnosed with cannabinoid hyperemesis, according to the researchers of both case reports.

"We estimate $10,000 to be the minimum cost of one admission -- but on average our patients required admission to the hospital 2.8 times, a total of almost $30,000 for workup," said Dr. Crissien-Martinez, who added that that cost does not include the added costs of primary care physician and/or gastroenterologist and emergency room visits, which averaged 2.5 and 6 times respectively.

Dr. Crissien-Martinez said that 80 percent of the Scripps Green patients who stopped cannabis experienced symptom resolution; however, only one of them remained abstinent and consequently symptom-free.

"As health care providers, we must be aware of the potential side effects of chronic cannabis use and understand that cannabinoid hyperemesis is diagnosed clinically to avoid expensive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities," said Dr. Crissien-Martinez. "Instead the focus should be shifted towards counseling and resources allocated towards marijuana cessation."

Pink + Green = Breast Cancer Prevention | Care2 Healthy Living

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink ribbons are everywhere, from lapels and teddy bears, to cleaning products and perfume. So much levity and cheeriness for a disease that is deadly serious. So much hypocrisy when these ribbons may adorn?items containing carcinogens.

When I think about breast cancer, I think about my mother, who died of it at the age of 50. I think of my own diagnosis 22 years later. And I think of the women I encountered in the waiting room during treatments, and the many I?ve spoken to since, who, unlike me, had no genetic risk factors. Yet, just like me, they were diagnosed with the disease at a relatively early age.

Why them? For that matter, why me? Why are so many of us being stricken?

Some of the answers can be found in a small, green paperback that my father presented to me a few months after my mother died.

Silent Spring by Rachel Carson was published fifty years ago last month and is often credited with igniting the environmental movement. Carson addressed her widely-read book to the general public. It clearly explains how man-made chemicals used to kill insects, weeds, rodents, and other such pests can travel up the food chain and?impact human health.

Carson asks:

?Can anyone believe it is possible to lay down such a barrage of poisons on the surface of the earth without making it unfit for all life??

She also sounded the alarm back then for how these poisons can change us on a cellular level:

?Some would-be architects of our future look toward a time when it will be possible to alter the human germ plasm by design.?But we may easily be doing so now by inadvertence, for many chemicals, like radiation, bring about gene mutations. It is ironic to think that man might determine his own future by something so seemingly trivial as the choice of an insect spray.?

Carson wrote these words in the midst of her own battle with metastatic breast cancer. She died two years after?Silent Spring was published. Her wise and prescient voice was silenced, just like the spring she envisioned in her book?s opening pages.

So while I applaud organizations that use pink ribbons to raise money for breast cancer research, I also agree with my fellow blogger, Elisa Batista, who?says,

?It will be a good day when pink mixes with green.?

To hasten that day, we must honor Rachel Carson?s legacy by educating others about the environmental causes of breast cancer. For the sake of our daughters and our sons (yes, men get breast cancer too), we must?take action now.

And we shouldn?t rest until we pin the last pink ribbon on the lapel of the last corporate polluter, and send them packing.
